Cash Management
How Does a Cash Recycler Work?
A cash recycler machine helps banks, credit unions, retailers, and other businesses manage cash more easily. These machines are designed to streamline cash handling and cash management processes. They are particularly useful for businesses that deal with large amounts of cash on a regular basis.
What is a Teller Cash Recycler?
A teller cash recycler machine automates tasks such as counting, sorting, and storing cash. These machines are also known as Teller Cash Recyclers or TCRs in the banking industry or as Cash Recyclers or TCR machines in the retail sector.
TCR machines increase security and accountability by reducing cash handling and keeping digital records of transactions and inventory, minimizing human contact with cash.
For financial institutions, teller cash recyclers integrate with branch teller software to automate cash deposit and withdrawal transactions. Cash recycler machines help retail businesses automate cash processes and securely store operating cash on-site.
How a teller cash recycler works: the steps
- In a deposit transaction, a teller or operator places bills in the input area of the machine.
- With a command prompt from the teller software, bills enter the machine through a note feeder and travel an internal path, passing a note reader that identifies the denomination of each bill presented for deposit. Sensors along the path evaluate the bills for fitness and authenticity.
- Any unfit or suspect bills are rejected for deposit to the safe and sent to a designated reject area.
- Valid or ‘fit’ bills enter a safe unit where they are stored in modules configured for individual currency denominations.
- The details of the transaction (including the user id of the operator initiating the transaction, the denomination of each bill being withdrawn and the total number of bills) are recorded The and saved to the machine log and reported in the teller software.
- For a withdrawal transaction, a teller or operator sends a dispense command to the TCR. The requested number of bills from each denomination exit the storage modules and travel to the designated output area. The transaction details are saved to the machine log and reported to the teller software.
- The teller retrieves the bills from the output area to complete the transaction.
